The Illusion: Factory Tinted Privacy Glass

What's up fellow drivers? Are you cruising around in a truck or SUV that's been made in the last decade? Chances are it's equipped with factory tinted glass on all the windows behind the front doors. But here's the thing - many owners of these vehicles often only choose to tint the front windows to match the back because they think they're already set with the rear windows. While the factory tint looks cool and offers some privacy for the backseat passengers, it does very little to help reduce the heat that comes through the glass or protect them from the sun's harmful UV rays.

That's where Window Tinting by Go2 Performance comes in. We want to give you two reasons why you should consider getting a professionally installed window film on all your windows, even the ones that already have factory tint.

Heat Rejection

First off, superior heat rejection. Yeah, we get it - the factory tinted glass looks nice and all, but when it comes to reducing the heat that comes into your vehicle, it just can't compare to the heat rejection possible with Nano-Ceramic window film technology. Remember, the factory tint is mostly for looks and privacy. So you might have the front windows ceramic tinted to match the back and get some heat rejection in the front seats. But you might assume that the level of heat rejection you have on the front glass is already present on the rear glass because of the factory tint. And that's just not true. Other than looking tinted, these windows don't do much to stop the heat.

So what can you do? Maybe you don't want to apply more tint on the rear windows just to increase heat rejection, because you think they're already dark enough. Good news - these windows can be made to perform way better with newer tech window films without making them darker than the factory tint that's already there. Using these films over the factory tinted glass along with the window film on the front windows will make your vehicle interior much cooler and reduce the need for AC in many cases. So not only will your passengers be more comfortable, you might even save some money at the gas pump.

UV Protection

Second, UV protection. Did you know that your skin can still get damaged by the sun even when you're just driving in your car? And did you also know that factory tinted glass does very little to block those harmful UV rays? While most of us wouldn't think of spending any significant time in the sun without some kind of skin protection, we often ride for hours inside a vehicle thinking we're protected. But a study in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology revealed that nearly 53 percent of skin cancers in the US occur on the left, or driver's side of the body. So if you're one of the approximately 208 million licensed drivers in the US, take note β€œThe increase in left-sided skin cancers may be from the UV (ultraviolet) exposure we get when driving a car,” said Susan T. Butler, MD, coauthor of the study. This is one of the reasons why The Skin Cancer Foundation gives many professionally installed window films their Seal of Recommendation that is a symbol of safe and effective sun protection.
